The Incredible Hulk

What happens when a man is caught in the awesome fury of an exploding gamma-bomb? You might expect he would be incinerated, but in the fertile imaginations of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby he becomes Hulk, a brutal powerhouse gifted with superhuman strength, stamina, durability-and a seemingly uncontrollable rage. Also, he's all green.

The Hulk is a Marvel Comics character that has been adapted several times for TV and the movies. In 2003, Ang Lee made basketball Hulk starring Eric Bana as Dr. Robert Bruce Banner and Jennifer Connelly as Betty Ross, but it failed to live up to fans' memories of the 1978 television show.

Now, Hollywood is hoping for a surer strike in a second Hulk movie, slated for release on June 13, 2008. Produced by Marvel Studios, The Incredible Hulk stars Edward Norton as Banner and Liv Tyler as Ross. More has changed in the movie than just the leads. The Hulk will be up against Abomination this go around, an evil force who is almost as strong as the Hulk himself.

The Incredible Hulk takes off from where The Hulk had left off; deep in the South American jungles. Pitted against both the external danger of US Army, led by Betty's father General Thunderbolt Ross, and the internal danger of the Hulk sleeping deep within him, Dr. Bruce Banner is trying hard to find a cure for the menace he harbors. This film will differ from its predecessor in its focus on the struggle between Dr. Bruce Banner and the Hulk. It's about being strong one moment and being helpless in the other. It's about being subject to drives and urges beyond your control. Dr. Bruce Banner has faced a lot, and the only thing he now fears is his own anger and rage

The first Hulk comic appeared back in May 1962, and featured a monster with...gray skin! By the second issue he was green, and he ran for many years in Tales to Astonish before reclaiming his own title. Sometimes a mindless brute, sometimes a thoughtful, and even dapper, man of science, the Hulk has undergone many transformations in his time. In the current comic series, a mysterious, gun-totin' red Hulk appears to have separated from Bruce Banner altogether.

In addition to the fondly-remembered live-action series with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno (the only time the Hulk has been played by a real person), the Hulk has been animated in his own cartoon in 1966, 1982 and 1996. An animated Hulk was also noticeable in the 2003 movie release, when a computer-generated image of the Hulk rampaged incongruously Ang Lee's thoughtful, deliberately paced family drama.

A CGI Hulk will return in the latest movie, which promises 100% more smashing, in addition to a taut Jekyll and Hyde psychodrama. Previews have stressed that 2003's experimentation and long, character-driven scenes have given way to faster-paced Summer movie fare. Rumor has it that Ed Norton is not necesarily happy with the decision to focus on hulking action and Kirby-style extended fight scenes, but frustrated fans should be celebrating at the idea of two green goliaths duking it out on the big screen. Will Hulk prove to be the "strongest there is"?

We tried to ask Hulk about his prospects, but he gave us the brush off, saying, "Puny humans hound Hulk, harry Hulk. But Hulk just wants to be left alone."

The Importance of Plyometric Training

I would like to take some time to explain the importance of plyometrics. Some people may wonder why it wouldn't be easier to just work out the legs basketball some squats and that would be sufficient. Wouldn't getting bigger muscles provide enough strength increase to allow me to jump higher. This is true in a sense but definitely not the entire results you are looking for. Using plyometrics increases gains in POWER, not so much in strength. This is where the important part of jumping is seen. Strength will allow you to push hard but it will not ensure that you explode up quickly.

It is actually a proven fact that the more you can lift, the more strength you have, the less power and quickness you possess, assuming no extra cardiovascular work or plyometrics. Let's say there are 2 football players, both weight 200 pounds. One of them can squat 400, and the other can squat 200. Let's say the 200 squatter has a 30 inch vertical and the other guy has a 20 inch vertical. Do you know why this is? basketball the weaker athlete has less time output with each forceful motion. His training allows him to shorten the amount of time required to reach his maximum force output, leading to more power from each contraction.

Using more power is certainly effective for many athletes out there. That is why plyometrics are so prevalent in sport-specific training by trainers across the world. Power is just as important, it not more, than strength in several sports. Being quick and jumping high are practically the definition of athleticism these days. Every time you see someone with a 40 inch vertical dunk a ball you immediately react with a thought about how athletic that person may be. Someone lifting 300 pounds does not stir up the same thoughts for most people. Strength and quickness are certainly not hand in hand, whereas power is. This is where you improve upon your type II muscle fibers for quickness and explosiveness. These are also known as your fast-twitch muscle fibers. The main goal is to shorten the time between the contraction and the stretch of the muscle.

The importance of plyometrics revolves around the basic concept that a pre-stretched muscle is capable of generating more force. The muscle must be stretched before the concentric movement, and it must occur immediately before the concentric movement. Simply jumping up in the air fulfills these requirements. However, plyometrics can be performed with upper body routines as well, it is not only for lower body things to improve leg speed which will improve running and jumping. One can also perform exercises such as clap push-ups or medicine ball throws off a wall or either straight up in the air. Medicine balls are a great aid to have in order to improve upper body plyometric abilities.

It is proven that someone will jump higher is they first bend their knees slightly, rather than just going up as hard as they can. Also, a person can decrease their total jump if they bend their knees too much. You must load up the muscles quickly and the right amount. The muscle is loaded with an eccentric, lengthening action and immediately it is shortened with a concentric action. The main important factor in this is the stretch reflex. This reflex allows the muscle to act more forcefully and use momentum to your advantage. It is proven that this type of training for 1-3 times a week for about 8-16 weeks in a row can provide great results. Any further training and it will be a lot of stress on the joints in the legs and could result in no further gains.

It is also proven that plyometric training mixed with strength training can result in greater gains in both departments. However, it is recommended not to perform each on the same day to also avoid over-training and getting the most energy out of each workout. Plyometric training will bridge the gap between strength and speed. It will benefit athletes of all ages if done correctly.

High School Musical Party Games

Planning a kids birthday party can be a stressful time for any mother. What them to have, who to invite, what food to buy and what entertainment to have. Also when you have a theme for a party everything in the party has to fit in with that theme, the guests, the food, the room and even the games. It is finding games that fit in with a party theme I find the most difficult as you want to be original but also to stay within your theme and make sure all the guests have a good time! A High School Musical party is one of my favourite parties and here are some of the High School Musical party games that I came up with when hosting a kids party earlier this year.

Top Five High School Musical Party Games

1. Karaoke - Use a High School Musical Karaoke CD and get one parent to act as Mrs Darbus while the guests take it in turns, on their own or in groups, to audition for a part of Gabriella, Troy, Ryan and Sharpay by singing a song from the film. Reward the winners with their very own High School Musical microphones.

2. Cheerleading - Put the girls in the party into groups and play the Get'cha Head in the Game song from the movie and see which group comes up with the best cheerleading moves. A good prize for this game is a set of pom poms for each girl in the winning group.

3. Basketball - If you have outside space and some boys coming to the party try to get hold of a basketball hoop and let them battle it out. Let them come up with their own team names, which the cheerleaders can devise a chant to, and award the winners with some Wildcat prizes.

4. Scholastic Decathlon - Divide the kids into teams for this trivia game. Make up your own questions from the film or use the High School Musical DVD game or the High School Musical party game with trivia cards included. Award the winners with some High School Musical notebooks and pens.

5. basketball the kiss on Troy - Use a large poster of Troy and make a cardboard kiss so that each child can be blindfolded and try and pin the kiss on Troy's lips. The winner can receive a poster of their own to take home.

You can also purchase a wide range of High School Musical party games such as pinatas, board games, card games and Singstar games. Singstar games can be used on either the Nintendo Wii or Playstation 2 and can be great fun. The kids will love singing along with their favorite songs, if you have them try incorporating these into the Karaoke competition.

A High School Musical party does not stop at games though. For more ideas on recreating the perfect High School Musical party including food ideas, costumes and decorating the party room visit HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL PARTY
