Completing a triathlon basketball not difficult for a seasoned athlete that has done a bit of cycling, swimming and running. Indeed, in my first triathlon, I did pretty well, even though I was weak in the swimming, I was a very strong running and could hold my own on the bike. Of course, I was not anywhere close to winning, for those athletes were well ahead of me by the end of the event.
No, you cannot simply enter a triathlon and expect to win without paying attention to detail. You need to learn about diets, stretching, training and you need to know your equipment, bikes, shoes, and suit. No one basketball wins a triathlon who is not committed to the details, no matter how strong they are in one or two events.
If you are serious about becoming a top notched triathlete or wish to win a local event in your age group, then you are going to need to learn the ropes. So, let me recommend a very excellent book you should read and have in your personal library:
"Swim, Bike, Run; Techniques, Training, Racing" by Wes Hobson, Clark Campbell, Mike Vickers; Human Kinetics Publishing; 2001.
This book is a training guide that explains the techniques, strategies and tips to shave minutes off your time in the water, on the bike or running on empty. This book is 250 pages of everything you need to know to prevent injury to self and ego. If you are serious about going for it, then this is one book I recommend to you. It's on my runner's book shelf and there it stays. Think on this.
